About The Author

Nicola Davies studied zoology at Cambridge, and worked with numerous different animals for several years, including humpbacked whales in Newfoundland. She went on to become a writer, producer and presenter of radio and television, including The Really Wild Show. Amongst her many acclaimed books for children are A Girl Called Dog, Rubbish Town Hero, Big Blue Whale, One Tiny Turtle, and Poo which was shortlisted for a Blue Peter Book Award. Her novel Home was shortlisted for the Branford Boase Award. She lives in Wales.

It is hugely to Davies’s credit that she makes these characters live such vibrant lives in the minds of her young readers . . . The action in the narrative is unflagging and fast-paced. The language is convincing . . . I would like to see this book adopted as a primary class text
