About The Author | Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a fellow and tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954 when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance English at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. Pauline Baynes was a British illustrator renowned for her work on C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia. J.R.R. Tolkien admired her work so much that she was invited to illustrate first his Farmer Giles of Ham and then The Adventures of Tom Bombadil. Her work spanned 60 years, and in 1968 she won the Kate Greenaway Medal. In 1999 she drew a map of the Little Kingdom for the 50th anniversary edition of Farmer Giles of Ham. Pauline Baynes died in 2008. |
Review Quote | ‘The magic of C. S. Lewis’s parallel universe never fades.’ The Times “Forget Simba. There’s a new lion in the Magic Kingdom… Long before J.K. Rowling dreamed up Harry Potter, Lewis was busy with his seven book series.” “Like the ‘Rings’ cycle… the seven Narnia books have a long and loyal following.” “Narnia offers huge scope for a profitable film franchise… fantasy is currently the toast of Hollywood.” “…a big, live action movie franchise to help spark new merchandising lines and theme-park attractions.” |
