She lives on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, with her husband, their two dogs, and one semi-tolerant cat.Candela Ferrández is a freelance illustrator based in Barcelona, Spain. Other text | “Fun with Oceans and Seas takes a boatload of information about the world’s oceans and makes it fun and accessible to kids. The activities, from coloring to crossword puzzles, are engaging and a clever way to get young readers to review topics covered in the chapters. This is a great resource for aspiring ocean explorers to return to again and again.” —Scott Bennett, manager of marine research services and secondary education, Marine Biological Laboratory “Packed full of fun and engaging activities, Emily Greenhalgh’s book Fun with Oceans and Seas is a true gem. This book takes youngsters on science-based adventures across the world’s oceans and seas. Readers are entertained throughout an educational journey with a balance of fun facts and engaging activities. This book is a must-have for any young reader!” —Connie Merigo, executive director, National Marine Life Center “What a delight! This book is a must for kids who are fascinated by marine life and the ocean. The information is easy to understand, the activities are varied and engaging, and the illustrations are so fun! I particularly appreciate that this book informs and inspires curiosity while taking care to convey a sense of responsibility to protect and preserve the ocean and its creatures. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or just someone who wants to share a love of the ocean with the next generation, this book is the perfect resource.” —Arezu Sarvestani, science writer, NASA “Fun with Oceans and Seas is full of great activities and fun facts. Even with a marine science background, I was learning new things about sea eagles, Chinese sailing ships, and the world’s second-largest coral reef. I found myself reading through the whole book in a single sitting, and I can’t wait to order a hard copy to do the activities with the kids in my life.” —Sara MacSorley, author of Super Cool Scientists “The geographic nature of this book is alluring, challenging, and fun. It is well conceived by the author and artist to present Planet Ocean as an exciting and critical feature of our world, one that future generations must learn about and become involved with to protect and nurture it. Simply put: this is a great introduction to becoming an ocean explorer!” —Roger Hanlon, senior scientist, Marine Biological Laboratory “The global ocean is a wonderful gateway for children in this (6−10) age range to develop a love of and curiosity about the vastness and wonders of our natural world. Emily Greenhalgh and Candela Ferrández have created a highly educational and interactive activity book that will help readers learn about the geography, history, and living creatures of our ‘blue planet’ while having a load of fun in the process. Bravo for this unique and wonderfully engaging contribution that can serve as a tool for educators and a vacation companion for families alike.” —John Mandelman, chief scientist, Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life at the New England Aquarium |
