Description
HIWAR | Conversations in Amman follows Darat al Funun’s 25th anniversary exhibition, residencies, and talks program, curated by Adriano Pedrosa, which ran from September 2013 to April 30, 2014. It brought together fourteen artists from the Arab world, Africa, Asia, and Latin America in Amman to promote exchanges between artists from the Global South—not only through the juxtaposition of their works in an exhibition or publication but also by offering opportunities to engage with and learn from each other’s practices and experiences.
The book features Adriano Pedrosa in conversation with Asli Çavuşoğlu (Istanbul), Asunción Molinos Gordo (Aranda de Duero, Spain), Bisan Abu Eisheh (Jerusalem), Clara Ianni (São Paulo), Daniela Ortiz (Arequipa, Peru), Hemali Bhuta (Mumbai), Jonathas de Andrade (Maceió, Brazil), Kiluanji Kia Henda (Luanda), Maria Taniguchi (Dumaguete City, the Philippines), Nguyên Phuong Linh (Hanoi), Rayyane Tabet (Ashqout, Lebanon, 1983), Suha Shoman (Jordan), Saba Innab (Kuwait, 1980), Shuruq Harb (Ramallah), Thabiso Sekgala (Zaf, South Africa).
Featuring also a conversation between Adriano Pedrosa and Joselina Cruz, José Roca and Bisi Silva; a reprinted conversation from Mousse 38.
This bilingual English-Arabic book mirrors the conversational format of the anniversary program, featuring artist interviews and discussions, along with a fully illustrated overview of the exhibition.
