About The Author | Author Steve Tomecek is a geologist who specializes in the study of soils, which is why he is known as "The Dirtmeister." When he is not digging in the dirt, he is a nonfiction author who has written more that 40 books for both children and teachers, including Bouncing & Bending Light, the 1996 winner if the American Institute of Physics Science Writing Award. Tomecek has written four other books in the Jump Into Science series including, Dirt, Moon, Stars, and Sun and is the author of the upcoming Everything Rocks and Minerals. In addition to writing for the National Geographic Society, he serves as a consultant and writer for both Scholastic Inc. and Chelsea House. |
